So here is my first post of hopefully many in Blogger as I soon open the new Shelter site. Although I tried numerous times to import all my old posts from Wordpress, I had no success, so as a new season begins, I too, start with a clean slate.
It's hard for me to believe that at this point last year I was just about ready to quit comics. I seemed to drag my way through the day, through school, through life, feeling that the things promised to me would not come to pass. What compounded the matter was the fact that although I loved being with my students I felt uninspired to meet their needs as other teachers who are called to serve in classrooms. Although I knew in my heart this was not what God had planned for me to be doing as a career, I somehow kept losing hope that anything would change. Why do I always do this? And why is it hard for me to let go of my will and to accept His in return?
I sit by my pc in the end bedroom of our colonial home, looking out the window. Although it's night, somehow the darkness doesn't seem quite so dark as before. God is who He says He is, no matter what the circumstance. I don't need to ask Him to be faithful. He has always been. And I don't need to ask him to love me, he can't do otherwise. But I will ask him to lead me, to show me who He is, to give me strength to persevere, for me to be patient and to be faithful to Him. I fall so short.
In the end nothing matters more than how we loved and served Him; and how we loved and served others. I'm amazed that He would choose someone like me to enter His family; to lavish His love and mercy upon. And how He chose to entrust us with giftings and talent that we can glorify Him with. He tells us to ask him for our heart's desires because not only does it make us happy, but it glorifies him to meet our needs! He is an amazing God.
So as I share this new blog with you, I share the new season in my life. Shelter will open up soon. When that happens I'll probably feel like flying...or crying. A big thank you hug to those who have stuck by me all this time, I have a small holiday gift if you come back Christmas day. I promise!

I love being able to look back at where I was a year ago and see just what God has brought me through and how He has changed my life, even in the smaller ways.
ReplyDeleteIt's so encouraging for you to share your heart with us, helps us to realize we aren't the only ones struggling along in our faith at times. And also that God does come through for us.
You have been a wonderful blessing with your talents and I can't wait to see how God will use you next. ^-^
Hi Lisa! I was about to refer someone enquiring about Christian comics to your Shelter of Wings site, but was led to this blog instead.
ReplyDeleteI know it's hard keeping a job and doing comics at the same time, all the while knowing that the Lord has given you a gift (I'm doing the same thing, and boy I've been procrastinating on my comics). Don't give up! You have a unique gift and place in God's big plan. Keep using your talents for Him!
Let me know when your comic is out. Would love to get a copy :). Have a blessed Christmas!
Crazy Syrup: Thanks for you sweet comment! I've learned that even if we think we're standing still, God is able to point us in the right direction and move us along, it's up to His timing, not ours. And yes, I do struggle with His plans at times. You're definately not alone! The most influential place we can be begins in stillness and sitting at his feet. God bless!
ReplyDeleteFavian: Hi! I got a chance to visit your site at CCAS; I shouldn't be surprised where God has placed you~ I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you bless ppl with your talents! Amazing....:)Will you be attending any comic cons in the near future? Take care!
Will be at the new site....Thank you! Expect fan fiction!

You are very welcome! :]
Hey Lisa ^_^
ReplyDeleteDifferent people have different Christmas traditions. WHEN do we get to oepen up this gift. Christmas eve...or Christmas morning...hehe?
Christmas eve;; :) MA: you can email me^_^
ReplyDeleteLisa-I've been have a creative avalanche lately. Glued in front of my laptop, I've been typing scripts like crazy! I'm trying to thumbnail everything so people will have something to critique via. e-mail.
ReplyDeleteI also finished a draft of my Genesis adapt, "Dawn of Man." =D
Question, when you start drawing the volumes, do you just jump straight into sketching the roughs before inking? Or do you plan out all the panels and figures first on a rough sheet then start drawing? I'm trying to feel out the quickest, most efficient way to get this done.
Taz
Hey Taz, that's great news! Better do as much as you can now before your time is spent elsewhere :3 It's funny that you wrote me today; this morning I went to your DA account after months of being absent^_^
ReplyDeleteYou have several options. First of all, I work entirely on the same comic paper until ready to ink, then I use a lightbox and trace the good pencils. I rarely use more than one sheet per page and sometimes even roughly outline certain sections of the drawing which I refine as I ink. This saves lots of time. I just do light roughs and save the detail work for last.
It's best to work from a good script which you should have already dissected into pages. If you're impatient as I often am, then you can start by laying out roughs according to your script per page, and ink from there. This can work against you in the long run cause the pencils tends to get disjointed and the quality can change from beginning to end. If you're more the patient type (I hope you are) you can draw roughs according to sequence or chapter, then ink that section. This works best as will give you faster, more fluid results.
Let me know how things go! Whoo!
If anything, I'll send you an e-mail, Lisa.
